Transitional Jobs for Ex-Offenders

This is from 2007, but imagine not only facing trying to get a job as an ex-felon, but also dealing with learning the Internet and other things after getting out after 15 years. Transitional jobs may not be glamorous, but some people are glad to have them.

Sorting trash is not a glamorous job. But it’s a job ex-offenders are glad to have. Chicago Tonight on WTTW reports on a Joyce-funded program that helps ex-offenders get that all-important first job. Via JoyceFoundation

What are your thoughts? Are transitional jobs a good idea? Should the government spend more to help ex-felons adjust to the workforce with skills training and education?

As seen in this story, education is a problem for many ex-felons. For whatever reason, education wasn’t a priority. Skills training can really help a felon when trying to find a good job for good money. There are some organizations that help with job training. Goodwill Industries Inc. is one non-profit organization that does quite a bit to help educate ex-felons so that they can find better work.

If education isn’t possible right away, a transitional job may be a good thing so that an ex-felon doesn’t return to old ways that got them in trouble in the first place. It’s a tough road to go down, but if you’re there, you have to remember to never give up – never surrender. If you look around, you may be able to find a good transitional job or at least find some skills training from Goodwill or another organization.

Good luck!
